The Free Press is sponsoring a traditional-style debate between incumbent State Senator David Miramant and Republican challenger David Emery at Rockland City Hall on Thursday, October 13, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The two candidates are vying for a two-year term in the Maine Senate to represent District 12, which comprises the Knox County municipalities of Appleton, Camden, Cushing, Friendship, Hope, Isle au Haut, Matinicus Isle Plantation, North Haven, Owls Head, Rockland, Rockport, South Thomaston, St. George, Thomaston, Union, Vinalhaven and Warren. The debate will be moderated by Free Press managing editor Andy O’Brien and will include questions from the moderator as well as questions from the audience. A video of the debate will also be posted online following the event.
David Miramant of Camden is serving his first term in the Maine Senate after being elected in 2014. He previously served as a Camden selectman and as a State Representative from 2006 to 2008. He is a commercial airline pilot and owns Spirit Soaring Glider Rides. David Emery of Tenants Harbor served as a State Representative from 1970 to 1974, in the U.S. Congress from 1974 to 1980 and as the Deputy Director of the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency during the Reagan Administration. Emery also served as Deputy Commissioner of Administrative and Financial Services in the LePage administration.
